Web Hosting / Domain FAQ
How long does it take to set everything up?Once payment is received, we will purchase your domain and set up your mail package within 1-2 working days. If you require a web page or pages, the time to develop these will depend on the complexity of your web page requirements.

Can I upgrade / downgrade my package at a later stage?
Yes. For example, if you are on a basic "MAIL FORWARD" package and you wish to upgrade to a full-scale website with web hosting, we will quote you accordingly. Similarly, it is possible for you to downgrade your package (however, refunds may not apply for amounts that have already been paid for the year).

Once I purchase my domain, is it mine forever?
No, it is not technically possible to "purchase" a domain - all domains are leased for fixed periods of time. If you pay for a one year period, then the domain will be yours for that year. We will send you reminder emails when your domain approaches its expiry date so that you may renew it. If you choose not to renew your domain, it will be released to the public after the expiry date.

Technical FAQ
What is Mail Forwarding?Mail forwarding is a system whereby email sent to one address is automatically forwarded to some other address.
When you get a domain from 3003 Online you can have an email address at that domain, for example yourname@yourdomain.com, that you can distribute to your contacts - the emails sent to that address will then automatically be forwarded to your existing email address, for example yourname@someotherdomain.com. Your contacts can write to you using the yourname@yourdomain.com address, and when you write an email to them your 'reply to' address can also be yourname@yourdomain.com.
This is useful for two reasons. First, it allows you to have an address at a domain that is relevant to you (yourdomain.com) without needing a proper email service at that domain - the email service is still handled by your existing provider (someotherdomain.com). The second reason is that you can change your email provider without having to notify your contacts of a change in email - if you switch to yourname@newdomain.com, you can have email coming to yourname@yourdomain.com forwarded to this new address!

What is a POP3 account?
A POP3 account is a type of email account where you use an email client application (like Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird) to download your email from the mail server of your email service provider. This is different from web mail, where you use a web browser (like Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox) to access your mail.
When you get a POP3 account from 3003 Online, your mails will be stored on our mail server until you download them using your email client. With a POP3 account, there is a limit to the total amount of space that your mail can take up on the mail server (see below for more on disk usage).

What is Disk Usage?
When you use a POP3 email account, emails that are sent to your address are stored on a computer on the Internet known as a mail server until you download them to your PC using an email client application such as Microsoft Outlook. These emails take up disk space on the mail server, in the same way that files on your PC take up disk space. Therefore, space per user on the server needs to be limited to some fixed amount. Your disk usage simply refers to how much of that allocated amount you have used up.
With the 3003 Online "POP MAIL" promotion, you get a total of 30 Mb (Megabytes) for your 3 email addresses. Each address has a storage limit of 10 Mb; the maximum attachment size for an email is also 10 Mb.

What is Monthly Bandwidth?
When you have a website on the Internet, that site is hosted on a webserver. Each time a page on your site is accessed, the webserver transfers the files that comprise that page to the person accessing the site - this results in the transfer of a certain amount of data. Your monthly bandwidth is the total amount of data that is downloadable from the webserver over a period of one month.
For example, if you had a one page site that had a total size of 1 Mb (Megabyte) and a monthly bandwidth limit of 1000 Mb, your site would have to be accessed a total of 1000 times during a month before your limit was reached. (Note: in reality a page is usually much smaller than 1 Mb)
Note that monthly bandwidth applies to POP3 mail as well. This means that the total amount of data you can transfer (upload / download) via email is determined by your monthly bandwidth limit. If you have POP3 accounts and a web page, then the bandwidth limit is shared between them.

Web Pages FAQ
What is the "template-based page" on offer? This applies to customers who want to purchase a domain and hosting now, but are not yet ready to launch a full-scale website. This is a single promotional web page produced using a standard template that will be customised for your domain. If you do not plan to launch a full-scale website, or are not yet ready to launch one, a single promotional page would be very useful. Having one means that any visitors who go to www.yourdomain.com will not be presented with a "Page not found" message; instead, they will see a web page with the information you provide us - namely your company (or personal) name, contact information, and one or two paragraphs of text.
If you decide that you need more than a single template based page, then we will quote you according to the number of pages / page complexity that you require.
As an example, please see www.jaysonsgroup.com, which is a one page template based site. Your page would look similar - the text and colours can be changed to suit your preferences. (Note that jaysonsgroup.com required a few additional pages for their products, which were considered separately from the main page and quoted accordingly). For pricing and other information please contact us.

How do I maintain my own website, for free?
Certain elements of your website (after 'go-live') will need to be changed in time, namely page/text/image content of certain or all of your pages. We offer our own custom Content Management System (CMS) which will allow you to do this yourself - namely editing the inner content of your pages. A CMS essentially gives you the capability to change your website content without having to contact a professional / your web company. A CMS involves a higher investment (one time) cost but much lower maintenance fees in the long run. We can also upgrade your CMS to be custom-made to your requirements (e.g. you may want a products system, or an image library, or anything specific to your business). Of course, certain elements of your site (like web design / template structure) may not be changeable via the CMS; as a professional will be required for more complicated updates (which is why we're here!). For further information in developing a custom solution for your needs, please contact us.
